The back of the setting is closed and provided with a plate of Argentium silver (99.6% silver) so that the colors in the gemstone are reflected most beautifully without losing its beautiful cool blue tone due to a gold background.
Argentium silver has an even higher silver content than sterling silver (92.5%), making it almost impossible to oxidize. This is important as you cannot simply get back to the bottom, and the tanzanite is very clear so it shows all the imperfections.
The Argentium silver plate is loose in the ring, so it is not soldered to the bottom. You won't notice this while wearing it, but if the ring ever needs to be taken apart, it won't cause any problems and it is easy to separate from the gold.
